Tumblr Fcheckr – Follower / Unfollower Checker App For Tumblr

Merry Xmas and happy New Year everybody!

Wouldn’t it be a geeky celebration without playing with some kind of tricky API and finding out how stuff works? Totally not, so today we looked under Tumblr’s hood cause they wouldn’t show you who doesn’t follow you back, which would be a really welcome feature.

Additionally there seem to be no working app out there, that can do the trick, so here is one we made: Tumblr Fcheckr. Just give it the access (needed for the follower/following lists) and it’ll show you the all your followers dirty secrets.

UPD 12.2013: At the moment after another Tumblr API change it is not possible to authenticate into the application. We’ll look into it as soon as we get a minute or an hour ๐Ÿ™‚

UPD 07.2013: Since it came up more then once – there is an issue with the “Don’t follow back” list for users who have a lot of followers.
Initially everything worked just fine, but after few updates the system started to close connection before giving up all the followers, so only the first thousand or so would be shown. Since these followers are then used to generate the Donโ€™t Follow Back list, it gets some honest followers too. So if you have a lot of followers – double check “Don’t follow back” list, sorry for that.

  1. The Don’t Follow Back section is wrong for my blog. It tells me certain people have unfollowed me when they are following me so…

    • Hey Michelle, the thing is – tumblr guys change their stuff a lot. Initially everything worked just fine, but after few updates the system started to close connection before giving up all the followers, so only the first thousand or so would be shown. Since these followers are then used to generate the Donโ€™t Follow Back list, it gets some honest followers too. In a nutshell it’s the followers section that is wrong, but it also brakes the rest. Sorry for that, I might look into it in my spare time.

  2. Ok, I tried this out and I don’t think this is the app for me. How do I uninstall this/ revoke permissions?

    • hey Beth, same way you revoke any permissions for your tumblr, nothing special about this particular app ๐Ÿ™‚

and no worries, we don’t have access to any of your data, neither did we have it at any point. That’s the whole point of this oauth thing. Thanks for trying it out!

        • It happens if you have many followers because tumblr API wouldn’t let the app get them all and closes connection.

        • Checked it just now, it works fine if you visit the link while logged in.

Might be a browser bug, haven’t seen any but tumblr can always have something new. Or a conflict with some of your installed extensions, ad blockers etc. You might want to try it in another browser.

  3. omfg!! its tracking the wrong unfollowers.. they are people who follows me.. wtf its not working at all. can you please check this thang.. i guess this site not workin thou :/

    • Hey, easy Cherie ๐Ÿ™‚

see “UPD 07.2013:” at the bottom – there is indeed a bug at the moment that has to do with tumblr not giving us its whole lists, so “double check โ€œDonโ€™t follow backโ€ list”, it’s still less work then comparing your whole followers / following lists

    • sorry Mirthe, can’t help you – tumblr changes their stuff pretty often so it might work today and not work tomorrow. My guess would be that one of your blogs has few followers and another too many for our app to get them all from tumblr
